Hiking in southern Turkey and Cyprus, October 2016

This year the pilgrimage started where I left off last year, Antalya. The plan was to take a ferry from Alanya to Cyprus, but surprisingly there were no connections. Had to travel to Tosuco to catch one. I again lucked out with the weather during my trip with no rain and temperatures of between 25 and 30 degrees. The next trip in 2017 is in the Holy Land.

The pilgrimage started from the Old Harbour in Antalya.

Duden waterfalls.

Large and modern hotels along Lara beach.

But the beach wasn't that crowded.

A Turkish köfte lunch composed of meat, bread and vegetables. No wine or beer.

Expo 2016 Antalya in Aksu was open. It really was!

Kaleidoscopic!

Downtown Serik. Streetcobblers sewing machines littered the street.

Greek remains in Side.

Some remains of an old theatre.

Stayed one night at a luxury hotel on the Cenger beach, cost 25€!

The hotel even had a private beach.

The port in Alanya. But no ferries to Cyprus.

Had to take a ferry from Tasucu to Cyprus.
Pictured above is Girne (previously known as Kyrenia) in Northern Cyprus.

Girne Yat Limani. In the background the Kyrenian mountain range.

Kyrenia Castle was originally built by the bysanthines in the 7th century.

At the border of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Cyprus.
Had no problems crossing it.

In Nicosia, mosques and churches scattered around.

Old Nicosia is surrounded by some mighty high walls.

In the outskirts of Nicosia early in the morning.

This company provides meatballs with mashed potatoes and lingonberries all over the world,
as well as affordable home furnishing products.

If You want "normal" coffee in Cyprus this is the place to get it.
From Mickey D not the stray cat!

The Church in Dali.

A roadside holy shrine.

On the european side of Cyprus one can get a "normal" lunch.

Troodos Mountains in the southern and western part of Cyprus with brushfire buffers.

Found a Nordic Folkboat in the harbour in Limassol.

Old Port in Limassol. From here pilgrims took a boat to Haifa, Israel.
